Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress candidate for chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, said Tuesday that supporters of the “New Nigeria” movement have raised more than 2.6 million naira to back his upcoming election campaign.
Paul said the funds were generated through contributions from supporters on the social media platform X, calling the effort a strong show of public confidence in his candidacy.
In a statement on X, he thanked donors and said the contributions have already strengthened campaign activities across the council area. ”Just to express how deeply grateful I am to the lovers of the New Nigeria who gathered on X the day before yesterday and, through sheer commitment and belief, raised over ₦2.6 million for the forthcoming election” he said.
He said the funds allowed his team to print more flyers, improve logistics and expand grassroots mobilization efforts within AMAC.
Paul described the donations as more than financial support, saying they demonstrate citizens’ commitment to political change and shared responsibility in governance.
He pledged that, if elected, his administration would focus on accountability, transparency and people-centered leadership, adding that the momentum from the donations would bolster efforts to deliver better governance at the council level.
Political parties are ramping up grassroots campaigns ahead of the AMAC chairmanship poll, scheduled for Saturday, February 21.
