The African Democratic Congress has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Kebbi State for the Argungu Fishing Festival, describing the outing as ill timed amid mounting security concerns in parts of the country.
The President was in Kebbi State on Saturday for a one day official visit that included the inauguration of projects and participation in the Argungun Fishing festival, which only recently resumed after years of suspension caused by insecurity.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed alarm over reported attacks and abductions in Kwara State, particularly in Kaiama and Patigi local government areas.
The party referenced reports of killings and kidnappings in the affected communities, warning that the security situation especially around the Kaiama axis, which connects to neighbouring states requires urgent and coordinated attention from federal authorities.
ADC maintained that while cultural events remain important to national identity and tourism, safeguarding lives must take precedence, urging the government to intensify security operations and reassure residents living under the threat of violence.
