Ex-PDP Presidential Aspirant Hayatu-Deen Defects to ADC

David Egbede, April 12, 2026April 12, 2026

A former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has defected to the African Democratic Congress, citing shifting political realities and growing national challenges.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Hayatu-Deen said his decision was influenced by worsening insecurity, rising cost of living, and what he described as a shrinking democratic space.

The former PDP contender in the 2022 presidential primaries noted that the country’s current challenges prompted him to seek a credible political alternative focused on security, economic stability, and job creation.

He warned that democratic institutions are under increasing pressure, stressing that the space for genuine opposition is narrowing and that Nigerians deserve meaningful political choices.

Hayatu-Deen also pledged to actively campaign under the ADC platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, leveraging his experience in business, economic reforms, and philanthropy.

Reflecting on his political journey, he said his 2022 ambition was driven by hope but lamented that expectations of Nigerians have largely been met with disappointment and unfulfilled promises.

He reiterated his commitment to contributing to job creation and building a more prosperous Nigeria through his new political platform.
