Fresh diplomatic efforts are underway as the United States and Iran have commenced direct peace negotiations in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
This marks the first face-to-face talks between Washington and Tehran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The US delegation is being led by Vice President JD Vance, who held a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ahead of the negotiations.
On the Iranian side, top officials including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also engaged with Sharif.
Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has thrown his weight behind the delegation, assuring that they will “negotiate bravely” in the country’s interest.
“In any case, our service to the people will not stop for a moment, and whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the government will stand by the people,” he stated.
