David Egbede, April 4, 2026April 4, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Skills Acquisition Centre in Jos, Plateau State, aimed at equipping young people with practical skills and reducing their exposure to crime.

The approval was conveyed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang during a visit by a delegation led by Mohammed Dahiru, Chairman of the Presidential Regulatory Committee on Technology Transfer, alongside security expert Suleiman D. El-ladan.

According to Dahiru, the centre will be established under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to drive employment and socio-economic growth.

In addition, Tinubu also approved a 1,000-megawatt power project to be implemented across Northern Nigeria through a proposed New Nigerian Energy Company in partnership with the United States, with Plateau selected as one of the pilot states.

The initiative is expected to boost electricity supply, stimulate economic activity, and enhance regional stability.

During the visit, El-ladan extended condolences to the state government over recent security challenges and reiterated plans to deploy advanced security systems under a “Community-Led Integrated Focus Protection Framework.”

He noted that the framework would strengthen the capacity to prevent, detect, and respond swiftly to security threats.

Reacting, Governor Mutfwang described the approvals as timely, saying they would help tackle unemployment, improve power supply, and address security concerns in the state.
