David Egbede, March 30, 2026March 30, 2026

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has stepped down from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.

His resignation was confirmed on Monday by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad in a post on X.

Tuggar is said to have submitted his resignation earlier in the day, with the letter expected to be formally presented at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He is reportedly preparing to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027.

“The Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, will bid farewell to the Federal Executive Council today as he steps down from his position to pursue the governorship of Bauchi State,” Ahmad wrote on X.

As of the time of filing this report, Tuggar has not released an official statement regarding his exit.

His resignation comes just hours before the deadline set by President Tinubu, which requires all appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
