The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 1,680,315 voters have registered ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The disclosure was made by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Aminu Idris, during a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties held in Abuja on Tuesday. Idris revealed that the figure represents an increase from the 1,570,307 registered voters recorded in 2023.
According to him, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters, as well as those who requested transfers or updates during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, have already been delivered to the FCT. He added that INEC would soon announce the official date for the commencement of PVC collection.
Presenting the updated voters’ register, Idris described the revision exercise as a vital constitutional requirement in INEC’s preparations for the polls. He explained that the nationwide CVR resumed on August 18, 2025, starting with online pre-registration, before physical registration commenced across the country on September 29, 2025.
