FG Closes Three Ogun Factories Over Safety Breaches

David Egbede, March 19, 2026March 19, 2026

The Federal Government has shut down three factories in the Ogijo area of Ogun State over serious safety violations.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, ordered the closure during an occupational safety and health inspection on Wednesday.

The affected firms include African Refractory and Allied Products, African Non-Ferrous Industries Ltd., and Metalworld Recycling Ltd.

Onyejeocha said the companies ignored multiple safety directives despite formal notices issued on December 9, 2025.

She noted that the factories failed to conduct hazard training and did not provide workers with essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“The factories failed to comply with directives. There was no response to the notice and no effort made to address the identified risks,” she stated.
The minister further revealed that several fatalities had been linked to the safety lapses, with some incidents allegedly unreported.

She stressed that the government would not tolerate negligence that endangers lives, adding that the companies would face penalties in line with existing labour and safety laws.

Onyejeocha also warned industrial operators to strictly comply with safety regulations and obtain necessary approvals before altering production processes.

Meanwhile, Vedanta Metal Industries Ltd., located in the same area, was not shut down but was directed to immediately improve its housekeeping standards.

This development follows an earlier move in December 2025 when the Ogun State Government shut down seven lead-acid recycling factories in the area over concerns of possible lead poisoning.
