President Bola Tinubu is set to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer today in London as part of his historic two‑day state visit in the United Kingdom.

The encounter at 10 Downing Street is expected to culminate in the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding and bilateral agreements designed to expand cooperation between Nigeria and the UK in areas such as trade, investment, defence and cultural exchange.

The meeting follows President Tinubu’s ceremonial reception by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, during which he and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu were welcomed at Windsor Castle with full honours.

The state visit — the first by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore new avenues of partnership across a range of sectors.

According to the invitation schedule issued by the State House, Abuja, the discussions with Prime Minister Starmer are set to be followed by the signing of agreements spanning trade, investment, defence cooperation and cultural initiatives.

President Tinubu is also expected to witness the signing of a £746 million UK export financing deal that supports the refurbishment of key Nigerian port infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex.

Today’s engagements are central to both nations’ diplomatic agenda. Officials say they aim to translate the long‑standing historical relationship into concrete economic and strategic outcomes that benefit businesses and citizens on both sides.
