The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered medical supplies and relief materials to support victims of the recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The assistance included essential medication, as well as food and other non-food items to meet immediate needs.

The handover took place on Wednesday, March 18, led by NEMA Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, on the visit aimed at assessing the situation on the ground.

At the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where several injured individuals are being treated, Vice President Shettima expressed condolences to the victims and pledged the Federal Government’s continued support.

“These supplies have been provided to complement ongoing treatment efforts and ensure the well-being of those affected,” he told hospital officials.

The delegation also included Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur, and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Duties.

At least 23 people were killed, and several others, injured following the explosions that occurred around 7:00pm on Monday, shortly after residents broke their fast during the ongoing Ramadan.

According to preliminary reports, the explosions occurred at three locations across the city — the Post Office area, the main gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the popular Monday Market.

Sources said the explosions were believed to have been planted by suspected members of the extremist group Boko Haram and detonated at intervals of about five minutes.

Witness videos circulating online show victims being evacuated and rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
