The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has called for stronger legislative and policy measures to enhance women’s participation in governance and decision-making in Nigeria.
Usman made the call on Sunday in a message marking the 2026 International Women’s Day, where she congratulated women across the world, particularly Nigerian women, for their resilience and contributions to society.
According to her, Nigeria cannot achieve its full potential without the full participation of women in leadership and national development.
“As a longstanding advocate for the rights and advancement of women, I once again call for stronger legislative and policy measures that will deepen women’s inclusion in governance and decision-making,” she said.
Usman noted that advancing women’s participation in leadership was a cause she actively championed during her time in the Nigerian Senate.
She stressed that women’s voices, talents and leadership must be fully represented and respected in all spheres of national life.
“Nigeria can only reach its full potential when the voices, talents and leadership of women are fully represented and respected in every sphere of national life,” she added.
The former senator also extended her greetings to Nigerian women as they join others around the world in commemorating the day.
