‘It Doesn’t Bother Me’ – Carrick Responds to Roy Keane Criticism

David Egbede, February 21, 2026February 21, 2026

Manchester United’s caretaker manager, Michael Carrick, has addressed criticism from former teammate and club icon Roy Keane.

Keane had reportedly cast doubt on Carrick’s suitability for the position and made remarks that went beyond football-related issues.

In response, Carrick told BBC Sport that he is not bothered by the comments and is not losing sleep over the criticism.

Carrick said, “It doesn’t bother me one bit. Genuinely, it doesn’t. I’m not going to really fall out with anyone over that.”

The former United midfielder, who shared a dressing room with Keane during his playing days at the club, emphasised the importance of mutual respect despite differences of opinion.

He added, “I think it’s a respect thing as much as anything and I’ll give and take that.

“I think for younger players in general it’s something we need to help them with and look after them. “It’s a different world now than when, say, I was coming through, but we’ll do that and we look after them.”
