Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has officially declared his intention to run for the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi made the announcement on Saturday at the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for ADC held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, reiterating that he left the Labour Party over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) refusal to recognize the party’s leadership.
Addressing supporters, Obi called for disciplined political mobilization ahead of the 2027 polls, urging the Obidient Movement to organize at ward and local government levels, strengthen polling unit structures, and ensure voter registration and alignment with the ADC.

He warned against a repeat of challenges experienced in the 2023 elections, emphasizing the importance of defending votes. “In 2027, you will either count the votes correctly, or you will be counted,” Obi said, calling on Nigerians to be prepared, united, and strategic.
Obi described the movement as more than an election campaign, framing it as an effort to build “a new Nigeria — disciplined, competent, compassionate, and accountable,” and to restore dignity to leadership.
Outlining his priorities, he pledged significant investment in education and healthcare if elected, arguing that sustainable development is anchored on human capital. He said countries that achieved long-term growth did so through deliberate investment in education.
He also promised to tackle poverty and reduce corruption, asserting that ethical leadership at the top would substantially curb the menace.
“When leadership is disciplined and transparent, corruption reduces significantly,” he said, recounting his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, said the movement aims to consolidate support behind Obi and channel energy into the ADC as the vehicle for transformation and electoral success in 2027.
The former governor’s speech highlighted youth engagement, grassroots organization, and strategic mobilization, calling on coordinators, volunteers, and community leaders across Akwa Ibom State to recruit, educate, and mobilize voters.
Obi concluded by reaffirming his presidential ambition, stating that with collective organization and voter participation, the movement would ensure he becomes President of Nigeria.
