The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), following an update on its portal.
The move comes after the party’s National Convention held on March 28 in Abuja, where a new leadership structure emerged.
Other officials listed include Kanu Uchenna as National Secretary and Bayawo Abdullahi as National Treasurer, among others.
According to the party’s publicity secretary, the update confirms INEC’s formal recognition of the convention outcome.
However, the decision has intensified internal rifts within the PRP. A faction known as the PRP Vanguard has rejected the convention, describing it as illegitimate and accusing the new leadership of straying from the party’s founding ideals.
Factional leader Abdulmajid Yakubu-Daudus insisted the party remains rooted in pro-masses principles, warning against turning it into a platform for “discredited politicians.”
The development highlights ongoing tensions within the PRP as it navigates leadership disputes ahead of future political engagements.
