The Senate has confirmed Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a screening session that featured questions and responses from lawmakers.
The confirmation came after President Bola Tinubu formally requested the Senate to consider and approve Darma’s nomination for ministerial appointment. The request, contained in a letter sent to the upper chamber on Wednesday, was read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Following the reading of the communication, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for legislative consideration, directing that the matter be treated with urgency and reported back to the chamber as soon as practicable.
Darma’s screening session was subsequently held, during which senators engaged the nominee with questions on his credentials, experience, and policy perspectives before giving their approval.
With the confirmation completed, Darma is expected to join the Federal Executive Council, though details of his assigned portfolio are yet to be officially announced.
Further updates are expected as the Presidency releases additional information on his deployment and swearing-in date.
