Davido Takes Politics: Afrobeats Star Joins Osun Campaign Trail

Rejoice Ewodage, April 22, 2026April 22, 2026

Afrobeats star David Adeleke a.k.a Davido, has been appointed head of youth mobilisation for the campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 8.

Davido announced the development himself on X (formerly Twitter), where he wrote: “I have been appointed by the Governor of OSUN STATE @AAdeleke_01 and flag bearer of the ACCORD PARTY as HEAD YOUTH MOBILIZATION OF CAMPAIGN COUNCIL! We look forward to a smooth campaign and you RE-election Your Excellency! 4+4”.

The post formally confirmed his role in the campaign structure and expressed support for his uncle, Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid.

The appointment comes as political activities intensify in Osun State, with the governor seeking a second term under the Accord Party platform.

Within 24 hours of the announcement, the development generated widespread buzz across social media platforms, with fans, critics, and political observers weighing in on Davido’s new role.

While supporters of the “Assurance” crooner congratulated him, others questioned the involvement of entertainers in political leadership roles and campaign structures.

One user, @OfficialClever4, wrote: “OBO don level up proper! From dropping bangers to becoming the head of youth mobilisation for Governor Adeleke’s 4+4 re-election under Accord Party… how we go use this energy push real youth empowerment for Osun jobs, skills, or just vibes?”

@iambenedict said: “Congratulations @AAdeleke_01 I hope Governor performed well to deserve a second tenure not just to say 4+4.”

@bigbrownson wrote: “Davido you’re not worthy of that position… you can’t be living a reckless life as a musician and be a youth leader. Naira Marley tried it and regretted it immediately.”

On the other hand, some users expressed support for the appointment.

@midenation_ said: “Congrats Davido! Head of Youth Mobilization for Uncle’s 4+4 re-election… First big Afrobeats star in that role legacy loading.”

@InsightByTee wrote: “Osun youths are LOCKED IN!!! 4+4 is LOADED… landslide re-election CONFIRMED!”

However, critics such as @Diamie_x questioned the decision, calling it “favoritism at its peak,” while another user, @eddyunlimited, added: “You want to campaign for someone who has done poorly in office. List his achievements in the last four years.”

While debates continue on social media, Davido’s appointment further underscores his increasing participation in Osun State politics, where he has remained a visible supporter of the governor and has participated in earlier campaign activities and state-linked initiatives.

In 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a role aimed at boosting investment in sports development across the state.

Since formally joining the Accord Party in December 2025, the singer has increasingly taken on civic and political mobilisation roles, leveraging his wide influence among young Nigerians.
