The Nigeria Police Force in Anambra has arrested a suspected impersonator, Eric Nwombu, for allegedly posing as a coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and illegally handling examination materials.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the suspect was apprehended in Atani after he was reported to have been collecting 2026 UTME slips from candidates at a cybercafé.
Upon arrest, officers recovered eight exam slips and a notebook containing names and registration numbers of students, which he could not explain.
According to the police, the suspect claimed to be a JAMB coordinator, but his explanation raised suspicion among staff of the centre, who alerted authorities.
He reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting operatives but was quickly caught.
Ikenga added that investigations are ongoing, with the case set to be transferred to the state CID in Awka.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
