AFCON Fallout: Morocco Frees Senegalese Fans After Jail Term

David Egbede, April 18, 2026

Authorities in Morocco have released three Senegal supporters who were jailed over the violence that erupted during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat.

The trio regained their freedom after completing a three-month sentence and were received by officials from the Senegalese embassy.

One of the fans expressed appreciation upon release, chanting support for Morocco.

Their lawyer also commended diplomatic efforts that contributed to their release, while urging the public to support the fans as they readjust.

Meanwhile, 15 other Senegalese supporters remain in custody, serving longer sentences ranging from six months to one year for offences linked to the post-match unrest, including hooliganism and damage to facilities.
