The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to comments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting there are strong reasons he should be worried ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement, the party argued that Tinubu’s remarks about not being intimidated by the opposition reflect “anxiety” rather than confidence, pointing to worsening economic hardship and insecurity across Nigeria.
“What Nigerians saw was not the confidence of a leader in control. It was the anxiety of a President increasingly disconnected from the reality of hardship, insecurity, and frustration facing millions of citizens,” the ADC said.
The party criticised the administration for focusing on political rhetoric instead of urgent national issues, citing rising cost of living, food inflation, mounting debt, and declining purchasing power.
It also referenced recent insecurity incidents, including reports of abductions, stressing that such realities should concern any leader.
“These are the reasons he should be scared, because the people are determined to vote him out,” the statement added.
The ADC further dismissed claims of irregularities in its national convention and accused the government of restricting democratic space, including limiting access to public venues like Eagle Square.
Reaffirming its stance, the party maintained that Nigeria’s challenges remain unresolved, adding that it is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.
