Osun Guber: INEC Shifts Campaign Deadline as Election Date Changes

David Egbede, April 17, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an adjustment to the campaign timeline for the upcoming Osun State governorship election following a change in the poll date.

In a press statement, the commission recalled that it had earlier released a revised timetable on February 26, 2026, moving the Osun governorship election forward by one week — from August 8 to August 15, 2026.

“As a result of the adjustment, the last day for political parties to conduct campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026,” INEC stated.

The commission explained that the new deadline complies with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act, which mandates that campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
INEC also urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the updated timeline.

“The commission remains committed to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections,” the statement added.
