The Nigerian Army has commenced an investigation into the death of a 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, who was allegedly shot by a soldier in Akwa Ibom State.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 1, 2026, in Ette community, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, where the soldier involved was said to be attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited.
In a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, Captain Lawal Muhammad, confirmed that the matter is under investigation and cautioned members of the public against speculation capable of prejudicing the process.
According to reports, the minor was allegedly shot while intervening in an altercation involving the soldier and his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel. However, the Army stressed that no conclusions have been reached, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Captain Muhammad assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public upon completion, in line with established military procedures.
He further urged the public to allow due process to take its course and to refrain from comments or narratives that could undermine the integrity of the investigation.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and adherence to rules of engagement, noting that any personnel found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
